The region started to totally dry up sometime in the year 1888 and remained thus till 1957. the major vegetation here are the camel thorn acacia trees which grew to full size here. the trees got drowned during the time the entire land got flooded and these dead trees were a major feature of this region for a long time to come.

Today Savuti is a lovely desert like region with the sun blazing down on the hot sand. The other end has lovely luscious grass plains with a lot of wild animals and it resembles the Serengeti region of Tanzania. The rich grasslands grow a great deal during the rains in summer thus giving us the best sights of zebras which migrate from the Linyanti to graze here. Savuti has a lot of pans that hold water for a long time thus giving the wild animals here a continuous supply of water.

The Gubattsa Hills are another major feature of the Savuti region. These are said to have developed around 980 million years ago during the time there was a volcanic movement here. These rocks are dolomites and they have resulted in the creation of innumerable hills. Rising to a height of a round 290 feet these really dominate the landscape here.

The Savuti region has a good population of wild dogs which are fantastic African hunters today. There is a great population of lions too along with cheetah and leopards. Hyenas are also seen to live here a great deal and are considered to be formidable hunters in this part of the world. Birds in Savuti abound in various varieties. So you get to see the kori bustards and the secretary birds alongwith the redbilled francolins and the Abdim’s stork. Moving at a speed of around 50km/hour they look beautiful with their horns and tongues that reach upto a length of around 45 cm. It is interesting to see how the females and their young ones live in herds of maternal groups and the male giraffe remain separate from their mothers. They are found to exist in a bachelor herd initially and then become independent gradually.

The tree grows up to a height of around 25 metres and lives for more than thousand years. The tree remains without leaves for around nine months in the year and when it does have leaves, the sight of the 12 cm long leaf is a treat for the tourist.

Then there is Jack’s Camp which is a great way to meet the closeness of nature. Makgadikgadi is a place that was earlier a super lake which is around 100 feet deep and covers a massive area of around 80,000 square kilometres. But there have been lot of climatic shifts that have begun to dry up Lake Makgadikgadi. Then there was further evaporation and the lake turned into large pans.

The pans did not have any human inhabitation and there were artifacts and other peripheral villages which are found around the pans which are enough proof that the people have been living here in the Stone Age. These days the people who dare to cross the entire pan are the guests in the lodge. There is a unique safari here and this gives you the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility and solitude here. The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park are in the boundaries of the park. So the Sowa Pan and the Ntwetwe Pan are important pans here in the beautiful region of Makgadikgadi. Then go to the Nata Bird Sanctuary which lies to the north of the Sowa Pan.

Then the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park have lovely grasslands and also the riverine woodlands which have lovely perennial pools which have the hippo living here. There are palm trees which grow in clusters and have the Baobab trees which are dotted around.

There is the Prickly Salt Grass which is yellow and resistant to saline and the interior portions are made of grassland and scrub bushes with small Camel thorn acacia and tall Real Fan Palms.

The flora of the Makgadikgadi region differs during the various seasons. The arid conditions here and the extreme temperature are in tangent with presence of the mineral deposits. They do not create ideal conditions for the living conditions of the plant. When there are rains in the summer season, the entire landscape is totally changed and thus there are many annual plants that help to maintain the greenery in the area. So get to see the wildflowers, Tsama melon, camel thorn, Umbrella thorn which are all majorly found here. Their roots help to tap the excess rainwater and strengthens the ground.

The most fascinating trees in this area have stood the strength of so many areas and their ability to retain the water is something that makes it more special. There are corpulent trees here which are very oddly shaped and they are scattered in various parts of the pans and come on outcrops like the Kubu Island.

With mammals like springbok, Gemsbok, zebra, the brown hyena and the black beaded jackal, found here, the Makgadikgadi is a lovely land filled with the best natural delights.

The park looks really beautiful and you would certainly love to enjoy this one time experience. The Chobe National park is divided into four different regions and each has a different kind of ecosystem.

The Chobe riverfront is located in the North end of the park, and has the basic geographical features that surround the region with the most lush green surroundings and also has floodplains and has the densest woodland with the best varieties of teak, mahogany and other hardwoods. These have been largely brought down due to the pressure of the elephants here. The river Chobe flows in the northeastern border of this verdant park. This is actually a very important watering region. The dry season  the elephants come here and the sights of the other animals like the Cape buffalo and sable along with the giraffe are also very common. Bird watchers find this a great paradise and birding is very common here. So see the carmine bee eaters, and ibis, spoonbills and then of course stork, waterfowl, and ducks flock this region. This is a greatly visited portion of the park and it is very near the Victoria Falls. Kasane is a town that is located very near downstream and is the main principal region and is the northern of the park.

In the western end you have the Savuti Marsh area which spans an area of around 10, 878 square kilometers and this is the relic of a large and gigantic inland lake where the water supply was cut many years back by the tectonic movements that were found here. Today the Savuti channel feeds the marsh and then it dries up for a long time till the channel flows again. The Channel first reached the Marsh sometime in the year 1982. There are many trees which lie along the banks of the channel. The whole area is totally covered with many grasslands and savannahs which make it a great wildlife hub. During the dry season tourists love to go on a safari and they see lot of animals like the zebras, impalas, warthogs, wildebeests and the kudus. The variety of birdlife in the park is greatly represented. There are also sights of zebras hyenas, lions and many cheetahs. The whole region is very famous for the annual migration of these predators and zebras.

Then you have the Linyanti Marsh which is situated near the northwestern corner for the park and it is found to the north of the Savuti marsh and is situated on the banks of the River Linyanti. The Selinda Reserves lie on the western part of the area and on the bank of the River Kwando. The Mamili National Park lies on the banks of the River Kwando.

There are lovely woodlands in between these two rivers and the lagoons and the remaining region is totally made up of flood plains. There are many wild dogs, leopards and lions found here too along with the sightings of lions, wild dogs, leopards, sable antelopes, roan antelopes hippopotamuses and many elephants. Siatunga or the crocodile is also a great rare species found here. Birdlife is also very rich here in this land of pleasures, adventure and thrill.

In between the ti MarSavushes and the Linyanti is a greatly fertile hinterland and has the best variety of the Nogatsaa grass and woodland. This is a greatly verdant region and gives you a lot to take home.

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is a lovely region of the best verdant expanse in this part of the world and was closed to public in the recent past. There is a kind of climate here which is greatly pleasant, and the terrain here is also a little harsh on the traveler. Initially created as a shelter for the Bushmen of Kalahari this has existed since 30,000 years. These Bushmen called the San Bushmen, where originally hunter gatherers and they used to live in groups of family and they took whatever they wanted to survive. This is a form of Kalahari art and it is their simple lifestyle that became a great interest to all the Europeans who have created a colony for all the inhabitants of Southern Africa and the Bushmen. The Bushmen thus not only became the hunted but also the hunter.

The survival of the Bushmen was a major issue in the year 1961 when the region of Botswana was a British Protectorate. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve was then made their homeland. These Bushmen today have mingled with other tribes like the Bakgalagadi and they are found living in the reserve. They have a traditional lifestyle and these have been passed on from generations to generations.

There are lodges for safari trips that are based in the various locales in Kalahari. These often have many people who are hired by these lodges, so that they can guide the visitors who come here and they also teach methods of how to survive. These people are clad in traditional attire and the animal skins and a bow and arrow give them the ancient look. These people show how to catch an ostrich and also how to find water filled tubers.
