    Joshua Tree National Park

    Joshua Tree National Park is located in the Southern Californian Desert (Riverside and san Bernardino Counties) in the United States. Previously a US National Movement, Joshua Tree National Park was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1984 and a National Park in 1994. The park covers a total area of 7,89,745 acres and encompasses areas of Mojave and Colorado Deserts. The park gets its name from the distinctive Joshua Tree. The park is governed by the National Park Service. Geography: Features of the two desert areas are mainly determined by altitudinal factor.     Grand Teton National Park

    Grand Teton National Park is located in the Rocky Mountains in northwestern Wyoming in the USA. The park is noted for its mountain vistas, alpine lakes and wildlife. The park gets its name after Grand Teton, the tallest peak in the Teton Range at 4,197 metres. The name ‘Tetons’ was originally used to describe hills near the town of Arco in Idaho. Grand Teton National Park was established in February 1929. The park is spread over an area of 1,250 square kilometres. Geography The north-south-trending Teton Range, which is a part of the Rocky Mountains, rises from the floor of Jackson Hole (a graben with an average elevation of 2,100 metres) along a 64 km by 11-14 km  wide active fault-block mountain.     Crater Lake National Park

    Crater Lake National Park is located in southern Oregon in the United States. John Hillman was the first white to have discovered the lake, way back in 1853. Set up in 1902 (thanks to the efforts of naturalist William Gladstone Steel), Crater National Park is the sixth oldest national park in the country. Medford is the nearest city to Crater Lake National Park. The park is spread over an area of 18,224 acres and is governed by National Park Service.     Everglades National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in southern Florida (Dade, Broward, Monroe, and Collier counties) in the USA. The park, which is one of the largest national parks (area: 6,110 square kilometres) in the US, protects Everglades, the largest subtropical wetlands in the country. Everglades National Park is among the only three locations in the world that has also been declared an International Biosphere Reserve and a Wetland of International Importance besides a World Heritage Site. The park was set up in 1947. Nearest city is Florida City. Geography: The elevation of the park ranges from 0 to 2.4 metres above sea level.     National Park is an area which is set aside by national government as well as the state government which is done to preserve its natural environment. National Park is no ordinary area, which will be chosen and declared as National Park. The area which is under National Park is less under human’s exploitation and away from its occupation and cities. Mostly the area declared under National Park has some scenic view, scientific significance, geographical interest etc, which is why it is being protected by humans from exploitation and abuse from humans only.     Gettysburg National Park

    Gettysburg National Park is situated at the site of the Battle of Gettysburg. The battle commenced in July 1863 during the American Civil War. Gettysburg National Park is situated just outside the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It lies in close proximity to the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The cemetery is dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. The park history commemorates the battle of Gettysburg and the soldiers who laid their lives during the Civil War. Nearly 7000 soldiers lost their lives and close to 30,000 were wounded. The citizens of Gettysburg provided adequate care to the soldiers. To provide recuperation for the soldiers a huge tent-city was erected to the east of the town.     Guadalupe Mountains line the Texas-New Mexico border. The peaks rise to heights of more than 8000 feet. This is in stark contrast to the surrounding desert land.     The National Park Service, or NPS, is a United States of America’s federal agency. National Park Service manages all national parks and many of the national monuments along with areas that have title designations for historical or conservation properties.
